Job Description

Together, Meridian and Powershop retail electricity to more than 375,000 homes, businesses and farms across New Zealand with a strong aspiration to grow. Now that’s a pretty impressive combo!

Meridian Energy is the largest producer of renewable electricity in Aotearoa and they strive to deliver clean energy for a fairer and healthier world. They only generate electricity from 100% renewable resources – wind, water and sun, because they believe that’s the best way forward for our planet and our communities. And, they’re doing what they can to help Aotearoa reduce their carbon emissions and supporting others in our communities to do the same.

Powershop started out by offering something different. They put the power into the hands of their customers by building an online Shop for power that’s simple, rewarding and fun. They’re on a mission to offer an exceptional digital experience for their customers and continue to give their customers the tools and information that they need to be in control.

This is a unique role where you’ll get the best of both worlds and get to work across two leading brands: Meridian and Powershop. And while the brands do things a little differently, the values and fundamental principles are very similar. You’ll learn the ins and outs of both brands, double the fun!!

What you’ll be doing
It’s an exciting time to join Meridian’s Retail team which has undergone a significant change in how they work to adopt new modern ways of working. Committed to making energy cleaner and cheaper for Aotearoa New Zealand. Meridian’s Retail structure is made up of a network of empowered teams, united by a shared purpose and clear goals, equipped with the skills and capabilities to deliver value to customers end to end.

Reporting to Head of Customer Relationships, the Customer Relationships Value Lead (Home), will play a key role leading the cross functional hub teams (covering sales, service, and operations) for the Home Value Stream across both of the Meridian and Powershop Brands. You will take ownership of the end-to-end performance of the hubs, supporting 230,000+ customers.

Leading a team of seven direct reports and a total of 80 people, you will be an exceptional people leader who can translate strategy into clear action, unlocking potential and driving strong performance outcomes. This role is about reimagining how value is delivered to customers, embracing digitisation and driving continuous improvement.

What you’ll bring
We are seeking an experienced leader with expertise in leading customer engagement channels and performance (sales, service and operational activity) with a proven ability to drive cultural change and deliver high performance through empowering teams and making people awesome. Skilled at balancing operational excellence with visionary thinking, you excel in a dynamic environment, influencing key relationships, and have your compass on customers – fostering impactful customer experiences that drive satisfaction and loyalty. Passionate about innovation, you inspire change, optimise performance, and cultivate a culture of growth and continuous improvement.

Whilst it would be beneficial to have knowledge and or experience gained within the energy sector, this role could also suit someone who has led sales, operations and customer teams or across multiple brands.

Why join Meridian?

Diversity and inclusion are embraced at Meridian to ensure that everyone feels like they belong, are welcomed, feel valued, and feel comfortable to bring their whole selves to work.

Sustainability sits firmly in Meridian’s DNA – both socially and environmentally – and they’re doing what they can to help Aotearoa reduce their carbon emissions.
