Job Description

Our client is a thriving plant nursery wholesaler in New Zealand, located in the Kihikihi area. They are looking for an experienced Dispatch team leader to join the team.

About the role:

The client is offering a full-time position from Monday to Thursday, 7.30am - 5pm and Friday being a 7.30am - 3pm shift.

  • Managing and motivating a team to ensure efficient dispatch operations.
  • Working closely with the Sales and Production Managers to meet customer demands and internal freight requirements.
  • Assigning tasks and managing team workloads.
  • Coordinating with the Palmerston North branch with their freight requirements of the business.
  • Making sure the orders are dispatched accurately and on time, including planning truck routes for efficient delivery execution.
  • Booking third-party freight and updating the tracking systems for all outgoing freight.
  • Preparing packing slips and labels for products.
  • Identifying any training and providing support to your team.
  • Performing quality checks on products before dispatch, making sure they meet the company standards.
  • Building a positive and productive team culture through regular communication, motivation and performance feedback.
  • Implementing systems to ensure consistency with the delivery of the products.
  • Ensuring all team members participate in regular health & safety meetings and follow the procedures.
  • Assist in business optimisation by identifying areas to reduce waste and improve processes.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in leading a team.
  • Previous experience in logistics, with a solid understanding of dispatch and delivery processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Geographic knowledge of New Zealand.
  • Good common sense and judgement.
  • Problem solving skills and able to think on your feet.
  • Experience in quality checking, ideally with plants or perishable goods.
  • Very organized with the ability to delegate tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Positive attitude, strong people management skills and proactive with training and developing staff.
