Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are interested to hear from people who have a caring nature and are family orientated for our Family Home Reliever role.
Our Family Home Relievers provide routine for our tamariki and rangatahi and maintain a safe, caring, responsible and supportive family environment on a 24/7 basis.
The mahi is rewarding and varied. You will be responsible for:
- Day to day care of children and young people,
- Providing emotional support to vulnerable children,
- Liaise with Te Tai Tokerau Placement Hub office about appointments and activities,
- Working in an Oranga Tamariki family home providing meal preparation, helping with homework, and maintaining a comfortable nurturing environment.
This is a casual opportunity; shifts will come up on an as and when required basis to cover our family homes and periods of absence and annual leave for our Kaitiaki. You get to choose to accept shifts offered that suit your own work / life balance and preferences, whilst contributing to positive changes in the lives of tamariki, rangatahi and whānau in our community!

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
We are looking for candidates with:
- Passion and resilience to manage and support children and young people with varied needs
- Positive attitude and role model along with an enthusiasm for your work
- Proven or some experience in caregiving, community work or working with young people
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
- Behaviour management / conflict resolution skills
- Have a calm and professional manner
- Excellent, listening, oral, written and observation skills
- Must hold a current full clean New Zealand drivers licence for the requirement of the role
