The Digital Public Service (DPS) branch supports Paul James in his role as the Government Chief Digital Officer i.e., the 'System Lead' for digitising government. This includes service modernisation, a priority of the Minister for Digitising Government to help progress New Zealand towards a unified customer service experience of government's digital services. Service modernisation is a multi-year, cross-government portfolio of work led by DPS and drawing together work from across the public service, with the aim of delivering better government services to New Zealanders.
We have been defining and designing a cross-agency service modernisation roadmap since the start of this year and it has recently been approved by Cabinet. We are now looking for someone to lead and drive the cross-agency delivery of this important work. The Portfolio Lead will maintain oversight of all roadmap initiatives, across agencies, monitoring progress and providing reporting and insights to a wide variety of stakeholders, up to and including the Digital Executive Board and the Digitising Government Ministerial Oversight Group. They will build relationships and share information in ways that support agencies and facilitate effective delivery in a fast-moving and complex environment.
The following expertise will help you be successful in this role:
- Experience working across agencies and effecting delivery through indirect accountabilities
- An understanding of the machinery of government and how to use it to drive progress, up to cross-Ministerial level
- The ability to formulate strategic insights and choose the right information to communicate to the right set of stakeholders
- Ability to maintain productive relationships while holding stakeholders (including senior stakeholders) to account
- A 'no surprises' approach to reporting and escalation that maintains trust while providing transparency
