RobLawMax have exclusively partnered with Lyttelton Engineering for this exciting newly created role as a Senior Engineering Estimator.

The Company

Lyttelton Engineering have been an integral part of the Port of Lyttelton since 1953. They are one of Canterbury's largest engineering companies and has proven itself to be one of the province's leading marine and industrial / fabrication facilities. Creating for their clients a range of plants and structures including steam and hot water boilers, pressure vessels and piping systems, heat exchangers, ducting, material handling systems and lifting equipment. They pride themselves on quality engineering and expertise which has positioned themselves at the forefront of these industries.

The Role

The is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the estimating function within the company. You will be primarily responsible for the coordination of bids, estimates and tenders, including assessment of scope of work and documentation associated with tendering. Analyse drawings, specifications and proposals of major engineering projects, working closely with clients, design team, the workshop and management!

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager you will be expected to effectively manage the typical range of estimating functions including responding to tenders, RFQ documentation, determine scope of works and report to senior management to enable decision-making on tender opportunities and priorities.

Estimating material, labour, machinery and outsourced work components of: -

  • Structural steelwork fabrication
  • Heavy machining
  • Pressure vessel / boiler heavy fabrication
  • Piping
  • Mechanical site work
  • Ship repair work

You will also have the responsibility to develop, maintain and improve existing systems and processes within the estimating function, making recommendations to senior management including specialised software requirements.

You will be able to tick the following boxes:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in an Estimating or Senior Estimating role
  • Demonstrable experience in estimating in a mechanical engineering context or an allied sector.
  • Formal Mechanical Engineering/ Quantity Surveying or trade qualifications with extensive industry knowledge
  • Commercial / contractual awareness, familiarity with common contract standards.
  • Marine, Industrial and General Engineering market awareness and appreciation.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • An experienced user of Microsoft Suite/ other estimating software packages
  • Very good communication skills (verbal and written) at all levels.
  • A well-developed awareness of good Health and Safety practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • A constructive organiser and influencer who enjoys 'making things happen'.
  • Current legal right to work permanently in NZ.

This is an office-based role, 8 am - 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.
