We have two fixed term positions available for appointment or secondment: Senior Investigator in our Investigations and Dispute Resolution team, and Senior Compliance Officer in our Compliance and Enforcement team.  

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner is Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator, protecting the taonga that is personal information. It is our mahi to identify and address systemic and population-scale privacy issues, increase good privacy practice, and champion the privacy rights of all New Zealanders.

Senior Investigator/Kaihōpara Matua

12-Month Fixed Term

Wellington or Auckland

Indicative pay range: $80,000 - $120,000 p.a.

Ko tā mātou mahi – the role

We are looking for an experienced Investigator who can operate at a senior level in our Investigation and Dispute Resolution team.  The role is 12-month full time, fixed-term position, where you will be expected to manage some of our more complex cases.

This is a great opportunity for a high performing individual with the experience, skills, and competencies to step up into a senior position, where you will be supported by other senior practitioners in the team.  

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu – what you need to bring

  • You must have either a tertiary legal qualification or relevant experience in interpreting and applying legal principles 
  • Experience investigating disputes or complaints, particularly in a regulatory environment, would be an advantage
  • Experience in the use of mediation or other alternative dispute resolution methods to resolve disputes would likewise be an advantage
  • Strong inter-personal skills, and the ability to engage with people from all walks of life, including the ability to deal effectively with complex behaviours and challenging material

Senior Compliance Officer/Āpiha Tuakana - Tautukunga

Ko tā mātou mahi – the role

We are looking for an experienced regulator to join our Compliance and Enforcement team.  

This is a 12-month fixed term role in our Wellington office where you will be working on important and complex work assignments.

You will:

  • enjoy navigating complexity in a regulatory environment
  • demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • have around 4 years' experience working in a regulatory context

Privacy experience is not a pre-requisite but an interest in privacy is.
