Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Join our highly engaged team of actuarial professionals - whether you are a recent or near grad looking to start your career or have some experience under your belt, we would love to hear from you.

Mō mātou | About us

ACC is a large, complex, and constantly evolving organisation that offers plenty of interesting development opportunities for actuaries, as well as plenty of opportunities to add value and make a difference to the organisation, and the New Zealand public.

With ACC you'll be supporting people in Aotearoa to stay safe by minimising the incidence and impact of injury, as well as helping them recover from injury if an accident does happen. We need actuaries to help manage the Scheme in a sustainable way, so that it's fair and effective for New Zealanders now, and in the future.

Mō tenei tūranga mahi | About this role

We're a diverse team who enjoy working together to provide high quality services. We take pride in what we do, and equal pride in work-life balance, and in keeping our team environment fun and enjoyable.

The Actuarial team delivers a comprehensive range of core actuarial services to ACC and external stakeholders. There is a variety of other work including assessments of the effectiveness of injury prevention programmes, input to policy and other scheme design questions, input to wider ACC strategy, and involvement in project work.

You'll be accountable for helping the team deliver great insight and advice to enable sound management of the Scheme. And you'll work with a wide range of stakeholders within, and sometimes outside the organisation.

ACC provides a comprehensive study support package to help you start or continue your journey through the actuarial qualification. This includes paid leave to undertake study throughout the year, and financial support for study and exam materials.

This is a permanent position, based in Wellington.

Ko wai koe | About you

You'll be enthusiastic and committed to delivering quality services, both from a technical and a customer perspective. You'll also:

  • Have, or be close to completing, a tertiary qualification in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, or finance.
  • Have exceptional analytical skills including the ability to work with advanced mathematical and statistical models and be easily able to navigate computer programming languages.
  • Have excellent relationship management skills and the ability to build rapport with your key stakeholders.
  • Be an excellent communicator, focused on providing actionable advice for your stakeholders.
  • Be continually looking for ways to innovate and improve processes and techniques to achieve quality results.
  • Thrive on variety and challenge and enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
  • Work well in a team environment, contributing to team engagement and team deliverables.
  • Understand the ACC Scheme and the nature of support it provides injured people in New Zealand.

You are or will become an active member in the NZ Society of Actuaries, studying towards your actuarial qualification. For graduates or near-graduates, actual or potential exemptions from actuarial exams would be an advantage but are not a pre-requisite.

Working at ACC:

We know that a diverse and inclusive team helps us meet the needs of our customers and we welcome candidates from every ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, age, and those with a disability or who have additional mental health needs. It is important to us that people are free to be themselves at work. Here are some ways we encourage that:

  • Employee networks to support our colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • The option to explore flexible working that suits your needs and ours.
  • Development opportunities in te reo Māori me ngā tikanga.

The indicative salary range for this role is $67,422 - $75,000 with appointment depending on skills and experience and internal relativities. ACC also offers 9% superannuation.
