This is an ideal opportunity for an Adviser who has about 3 - 4 years post qualification experience in either Funds Management; Risk & Compliance; Legal or Policy that would be keen to develop a career in our Investment Management Team.
Our team is motivated to help achieve fair outcomes for New Zealand investors. To do this, we influence, monitor, educate and develop the investment management sector. The investment management sector includes fund managers (including KiwiSaver funds), discretionary investment management service providers, derivatives issuers, crowd funding and peer to peer service providers, and custodians.
Our sectors are incredibly important for the financial well-being of New Zealanders. Our remits include the managed fund sector with $186 Billion of funds under management and the DIMS sector with $42 Billion of funds under management.
The Role - Te Tūranga
As an Adviser you'll be lending your skills in analysis, communication and big picture thinking to help improve the experience of investors and the capability of the FMA. You'll be working on big projects that "raise the bar" as well as supporting engagement with market participants to promote the development of fair, efficient, and transparent managed investments.
Right now, we're working on improving value for money for investments, ensuring fund managers' business models and risk-management capabilities work for investors, and looking to the horizon for ways to promote sector growth while improving risk management practices.
As well as developing an improving the investment management sector, we also have a role in monitoring and engaging with market participants to identify issues and resolve often novel problems. We have a wide scope of interesting projects requiring great problem-solving abilities and no two days are the same.

As you develop as specialist in investments, compliance, and regulation, you will make key contributions to the team's work to improve investor outcomes. This position will allow you to work closely with other teams across the FMA as well as giving you the opportunity to engage directly with market participants, supervisors and industry associations. You'll be helping us analyse novel issues in the industry, develop effective solutions and implement improvements in a fair and consistent way.
About you - Ō pūkenga
We are looking for someone who is curious, enthusiastic, analytical, and has excellent written communication skills. You might already be working in the finance but want to explore the wider sector. You might have legal or policy experience that will help us effectively influence market participants. You can expect to be working on a variety of work where you will be engaged, challenged and adaptive to situations where the answer isn't clear-cut.
Ideally, you'll have some experience working with any of the finance sectors that we regulate in roles such as compliance, risk, legal, product management, analyst, or research. We would also be keen on hearing from you if you have experience in consulting, or advising the industry participants we regulate or if you have relevant experience from a previous regulatory or policy role.
To effectively influence, monitor, and educate, we will need you to have excellent verbal and written skills so can you articulate complex legal or industry jargon to a variety of stakeholders.
