About the Role

We are looking for an Alcohol and Drug Counsellor to join our supportive Mental Health and Addictions services multi-disciplinary team, covering parental leave, working part time 24 hours per week based in Whangarei.

This role offers opportunities to support positive health outcomes for Māori receiving treatment and care in Northland. Your day will include AOD Assessments, referrals to appropriate services, AOD counselling to individuals/whanau and group facilitation within the AOD Service. The role also includes some triaging and duty clinician responsibilities.

About the Team

We provide a full range of mental health and alcohol and drug services including assessment, group therapy, family/whānau and individual interventions. We work with both the person and their family to achieve the best possible results.

About you

Our ideal applicant will have:

  • A recognised qualification in Alcohol and Drug Studies, Counselling, Social Work, Nursing, Social Sciences or related fields
  • Registered with a professional body. If not a registered health professional, eligibility for DAPAANZ registration or Provisional Registration. 
  • A current full drivers' licence and ability to travel throughout Northland as required.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
