An exciting opportunity awaits New Graduate Occupational Therapists, or Social Workers or those wanting to move into mental health. We are looking for motivated and passionate Occupational Therapists and Social Workers to join the Allied Health New Entry to Specialist Practice (AH NESP) programme within Specialist Mental Health Service (SMHS), Waitaha Canterbury. These positions are supernumerary, with opportunity to work alongside an experienced Mental Health staff for the first 12 months to consolidate and develop your clinical skills.

 The NESP programme will include:

  • Provision of a preceptor/work place mentor, and a thorough orientation and training package.
  • Regular clinical supervision, tutorials, and workshops with other NESP trainees.
  • Rotation through 2 different clinical areas within SMHS for the purposes of broadening experience and developing profession specific skills.
  • Completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Allied Mental Health and Addictions). The academic course will most likely be block taught by AUT in Christchurch, fees are covered by Te Pou or Te Whatu ora - Waitaha Canterbury.

 Applicants must be:

  • A New Graduate Occupational Therapist or Social Worker with no previous clinical mental health experience (applicants may have had student placements in SMHS and new graduates are welcome to apply).
  • Registered OR provisionally registered with OTBNZ or SWRB.
  • Committed to learning and developing their professional practice in mental health domain.
  • A New Zealand resident, with a full driver - s licence.
