Aluminium Cutter / Machinist

Position Overview:
As an Aluminium Cutter / Machinist for their Dunedin facility, you will play a crucial role in achieving production targets for cut and machined aluminium. Your focus will be on producing top-notch window systems that surpass customer expectations while adhering to their 'safety first' culture and health and safety policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Production and Manufacturing:
- Model the clients core values in all team interactions.
- Coordinate the process of unpacking, cutting, and machining aluminium.
- Execute and/or oversee cutting and machining tasks effectively.
- Meet production goals and deadlines consistently.
- Perform routine maintenance on machinery, including blade and lubricant upkeep.
- Communicate regularly with the Supervisor/Manager about job orders and missing products, ensuring follow-through.
- Update production schedules as needed and assist with problem-solving.
Planning:
- Maintain effective communication with the Supervisor/Manager regarding job orders and missing products.
- Report production issues and trends promptly to the Supervisor/Manager.
- Understand the impact of operational issues on customer orders.
- Support stock taking and attend weekly production meetings to align stock levels with production needs.
Health & Safety:
- Exhibit strong safety leadership and foster a 'safety first' culture.
- Adhere to health and safety management systems and ensure safety is prioritized.
- Support the risk management framework by identifying hazards and implementing controls.
- Address safety issues proactively and challenge unsafe practices.
- Follow all health and safety policies, including reporting accidents, incidents, and hazards.
- Stay updated on health and safety legislation and compliance.
- Utilize Health and Safety Management software to streamline risk management.
- Implement annual health and safety plans and oversee production area tasks as per the Annual Review Schedule.
- Assist with risk assessments, audits, accident investigations, safety meetings, and workplace procedures.
General:
- Uphold the professional standards and image of our client.
- Provide regular reports as required by management.
- Perform other duties as reasonably requested within your skills and experience.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in an Aluminium Machinist / Cutting or Engineering role, preferably 3+ years.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret shop drawings and workshop manuals.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication skills.
Additional Information:
- A clean MOJ check and passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen are required.
- Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
