Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Ko mātou | About Us

The Education Review Office (ERO) works for the benefit of New Zealand's young children and students.

Within ERO, Te Ihuwaka | The Education Evaluation Centre works on a wide variety of topical and timely projects to evaluate the performance of the education system, the effectiveness of programmes, and to identify and share best practice. Te Ihuwaka is uniquely positioned to provide independent and objective advice, which is highly valued by decision makers and stakeholders.

When you work at Te Ihuwaka, you will contribute to work that has real impact on education outcomes in New Zealand. Over the past 12 months, Te Ihuwaka has advised government on what needs to change across a wide range of issues including improving behaviour in classrooms, looking at the quality of initial teacher education and the quality of provision in alternative education.  We also support teachers and ECE Kaiako by providing evidence-based real-world examples of good practice on issues like teaching maths.  Many of these reports have impacted policy and driven real change.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

If you are looking for an opportunity to contribute to real, evidence-based change for every learner, and have strong skills in either quantitative analysis and providing high quality advice, at pace, we encourage you to apply for a role at Te Ihuwaka. This is a full time, permanent position.

We are keen to hear from you if you thrive when working at pace and know how to deliver high quality work on short timelines.  You don't need a research background - we have an established method, and if you have experience in government in policy or research roles and want to learn our research method we can teach you how we do our work.

You will bring project experience, exceptional writing skills and a collaborative approach to your work. You will be comfortable with ambiguity, driven to succeed, and committed to putting children at the heart of the matter. We are particularly keen to hear from you if you have an economics background or have previous experience analysing survey data.

This is your chance to help shape education in Aotearoa New Zealand, contribute to building the evidence base for education, and to see your work have a real impact on education outcomes.
