We are looking for 2 Area Managers, 1 based in Nelson/Marlborough area and 1 in the Canterbury/West Coast area.

Ko te tīma - About your team

The Area Manager is a senior member of the Regional Leadership team within the Inspectorate.  The role will lead an integrated front-line team across a particular are of Aotearoa, providing insights and data driven solutions to enable the Inspectorate to run effectively and in a manner that contributes to WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru's strategy and priorities. 

Ō te tūranga - About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and resilient Area Manager to drive and embed a one-team approach.  This is a new way of working for our Inspector teams and you will be expected to lead, develop, build and maintain a well-functioning, engaged and integrated Inspectorate team.  You will need to ensure skills within the Inspectorate are broadened, capability is built, and resource is managed effectively.

There is a strong stakeholder management element as well as the role supports the Regional Manager in developing and influencing sector partner relationships across the area.

Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do

  • Develop and drive individual and team objectives for improved business performance in line with strategic direction, whilst also addressing under performance.
  • Tracking performance to feed to a regional level and vice versa to ensure targets are being met and adjusted where needed. 
  • Deeply understand the risk and harm profile of the respective area and broader region to ensure the Inspectorate is resourced and deployed effectively.
  • Ensure the team understand the data and insights from their area and how to best utilise these most effectively in their own mahi. 
  • Manage the oversight of all significant and complex issues, investigations and cases within the area.
  • Responsible for workflow management and task coordination for all notifications in their area.

  • Experience in developing strategies that lead to significant positive cultural change.  
  • Ability to build capability and skills within the team and set a positive work culture / increase employee engagement. 
  • Experience in driving business and employee performance.  
  • Experience in health and safety field with knowledge of health and safety legislation. 
  • Extensive interpersonal skills and proven ability developing relationships across the organisation, including the ability to influence senior stakeholder, through the application of commercial, political, and strategic acumen for positive business outcomes. 
  • Experience building positive working relationships with stakeholders to build shared ambition and commitment to the strategy.

Awhe utu - Salary range

As part of our remuneration framework the full salary range for the position is from $149,661 to $197,801.  Note: KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contribution is additional to/on top of your base salary.
