The University of Otago, Wellington is a medical and health sciences campus, home to around 1,000 students and an inspirational Teaching team of leading Health Educators and Researchers.

We are at the forefront of disseminating research evidence and clinical knowledge to our communities, policymakers, and government and non-government agencies. The campus has strengths in a number of areas including biomedical, clinical and public health research.

Our Pacific Office provides support and expertise to those researching Pacific health in Aotearoa and the Pacific region.

The role/Te mahi

As an Assistant Research Fellow reporting to the Associate Dean Pacific, you will be part of a team undertaking research projects focused on Rheumatic Fever and Heart Health.

Key tasks of this role include:

  • providing high-level research, service and admin support to projects Principal Investigators
  • carrying out the specified research, research related and/or analytical activities with professionalism and collegiality
  • preparing research documents, including proposals, analysis of results, and making contributions to academic papers
  • co-ordinating the involvement of project participants
  • assisting with the preparation of academic research papers for reports, publication and dissemination of data.

We are seeking candidates who can work with professionalism, collegiality and a responsiveness to the University's goals of the Pacific Strategic Framework.

Successful candidates will also:

  • have a bachelor's degree
  • have strong research experience and interviewing skills
  • have demonstrated experience working with Pacific and Māori communities
  • be able to work as part of a team and independently
  • demonstrate a significant degree of initiative and organisation in their work
  • be highly organised, with excellent writing and communication skills.

Laboratory skills and previous experience with animals would be helpful.

We have two, full-time (37.5 hours week), fixed-term (one year) positions available, located in Wellington.

The salary scale for this role is $58,341 to $78,531.
