About the Role:
We are seeking Casual Registered Nurses to join the Wairoa Hospital team over the holiday period to help meet the increased demand from an influx of holidaymakers. This is an excellent opportunity to support a rural hospital providing high-quality care to our community and visitors during a busy and rewarding time of year.
As a Registered Nurse in our team, you’ll provide exceptional care across our integrated services, which include a 2-bed emergency department, a 9-bed inpatient unit, and a 3-bed primary maternity facility. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred care for patients in this unique rural setting.

About the Team/Service/ Location:
Wairoa Hospital serves a close-knit rural community and is situated alongside an Integrated Family Health Centre. Our services provide acute, inpatient, and primary maternity care, with a strong focus on delivering culturally responsive and whānau-centred care.
The holiday period sees an increase in demand for health services as visitors and holidaymakers join our vibrant community. This casual role offers flexibility and the chance to make a meaningful difference during this busy time.
About you:
We are looking for experienced and adaptable Registered Nurses who are passionate about providing quality care and are ready to step into a dynamic environment. You will:
- Hold a current Annual Practicing Certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
- Have experience in acute, emergency, or inpatient care (rural nursing experience is advantageous but not essential).
- Thrive in a team environment, communicating effectively with colleagues, patients, and whānau.
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor under pressure.
- Possess excellent clinical and critical thinking skills, ensuring safe, patient-centred care.
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
