Service:    ORA Allied Health 

Contract: Permanent - hours are negotiable up to 36 hours per week. Please state on cover letter what hours you are seeking

Salary:  $111,000 - $121,500 pro rata - as per SECA 

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

An exciting new role has been scoped which provides career development opportunity and offers flexibility. We are seeking the right experience so hours are negotiable for the right person. The focus of the role is to develop and support the acute physical health rotational program and new to practice occupational therapy clinicians. We are continuing to develop the rotational program offering an inter-district rotational programme. This new role will strengthen the program to support clinicians to get and build the skills and capabilities, develop depth into the program to continue to build our health workforce to achieve excellence in our acute occupational therapy service and enhancing Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley, as a desirable location to work and learn. 

The rotational program consists of nine positions across the district, this educator role will look to further develop and support the rotational program with the provision of consistency of support, appropriate clinical coaching and training to new graduate occupational therapists. The educator will also support clinical mentors/preceptors in specialist practice areas to coach and upskill rotational therapists. 

The role will work across services (Wellington, Hutt and Kenepuru sites) to continue to develop, maintain and support the rotational occupational therapy program utilising principles of evidence based practice to meet the learning needs of new and developing occupational therapy team members.  The educator will provide group training and 1:1 educational support. The role offers some opportunity for occasions of working from home with review, development and updating resources to include orientation, on boarding processes for rotational team members, and policies and procedures for clinical practice in conjunction with allied health leadership and team members.

The Occupational Therapy teams across the district bring a unique lens to healthcare with an occupational therapy lens, assessing and treating patients to contribute to successful discharges with commitment to improve outcomes for patients and contribute to acute hospital flow. We work alongside a diverse health team including a strong allied health workforce of speech language therapists, physiotherapists, dieticians and social workers. We are supported by a team of Allied Health Assistants who work hard to support the allied health team

The allied health service continues to develop and have recently been operationally restructured for across district leadership. The inpatient service sits alongside the other settings of care (community and outpatients) with opportunity to network across the district. The inpatient occupational therapy service is focused on strengthening and developing across the district to share knowledge and support our growth, across all three sites (Wellington, Hutt and Kenepuru sites) which includes 35 roles, nine of these are rotational positions. 

Moū - About you

You will have a minimum of 5 years clinical practice with at least 4 years - experience in the area of Inpatient Occupational Therapy (Physical Health) or other relevant experience. Have a strong interest in contributing to the development of others, be a reliable, quality driven, self-motivator with a passion to develop this role.

Candidates will have a strong commitment to bicultural practice and promoting equity in the Occupational Therapy service. You will be motivated to work alongside operational leadership, professional leadership and clinical specialists / subject matter experts to support development of the occupational therapy service. 

Desired skills that you will bring to the role will include:- 

  • Sound knowledge of hospital and community services and the needs of new graduates entering specialist services 
  • Experience in adult teaching, education and or coaching other clinicians. Previous experience in supervising and or mentoring new graduates. 
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate skills and learning needs. 
  • Wheeled Mobility and Postural Management - Level 1 or commitment to achieving within 1 year and credentialing and EMS Band 1 and 2 credentialing.
