About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior Registered Nurse with an interest and specialist knowledge in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to join the Neurology Department as our Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is an exciting chance for someone to step up into a senior role and become the clinical nursing lead for this area.

To succeed in this role you will have the drive and ability:

  • To collaborate in the development of services for people with multiple sclerosis.
  • To facilitate the assessment, planning, prescription and delivery of care for this group of patients, in order to obtain the best possible outcome in the most effective manner. 
  • To provide an information resource, counselling, education and practical support for people with MS, their families and staff.
  • To provide an expert link between hospital, community services and the voluntary sector.
  • To influence the development of knowledge, research, ideas and work practice throughout the Region.

Your passion and clinical expertise in this area will place you perfectly as a specialist resource for the team, providing valuable support and education to new and existing staff and nursing students. As a confident communicator, you will easily establish quality relationships and ensure exceptional ongoing service delivery for our service users.

Shifts are Monday to Friday, days can be negotiated at interview stage.

About the Service

The MS service is part of the Neurology Department at Christchurch Hospital and is predominately an outpatient based service. You will work closely alongside senior medical staff, registrars and a small team of Registered Nurses.

About you 

We are looking for someone who is committed and passionate to succeed in this role and who as a positive role model will work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care and improved patient outcomes are attained. 

You will have motivation, the ability to engage people, excellent clinical assessment, education and communication skills in addition to expert nursing knowledge and extensive clinical experience is essential for the role.

  • Relevant experience working with patients with Multiple Sclerosis
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to effectively and efficiently complete tasks
  • Motivated, shows initiative and is a flexible self-starter with the ability to work both in a team and autonomously.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
