About the Role
Te Whatu Ora Taranaki is seeking the services of a Trainee Clinical Cardiac Physiologist to work in our Cardiology and Respiratory department at Taranaki Base Hospital. You would be working as part of a dynamic team of Cardiac and Respiratory Physiologists, Cardiac Sonographers, Nurses and Medical staff. The department offers;
- Exercise Treadmill testing
- Assistance with Chemical and Physical Perfusion Scans
- Transthoracic Echocardiography
- Transoesophageal Echocardiography
- Pacemaker/ICD monitoring and interpretation
- Diagnostic Lung Function testing
- ILR implantation and monitoring
- Diagnostic Coronary Angiography
A trainee’s main duty is performing Electrocardiographs (ECG), including recognition and interpretation of arrhythmias, assisting exercise tolerance stress testing (ETT), Holter/Event/Blood Pressure monitor application and removal, spirometry (simple lung function test), assisting in pacemaker/ICD follow up and various administrative duties specific to the Cardiac Physiology department. As a trainee, you will be learning to perform these duties, transitioning from fully supervised instruction to working independently once successful practical assessment is achieved.
About You
Applicants must be a graduate or possess an appropriate health professional qualification requiring at least three years' tertiary level study, plus enrolment into the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Technology (PGCertMedTech), via Otago University. The ideal applicant will be undertaking the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Technology (PGDipMedTech), endorsed in Cardiology.
