Based in Wellington, New Zealand, The role integrates strategic and hands-on management of the Digital Operations, outsourced contracts and management activities. Reporting to the Manager of Commercial and Contracts as part of the Corporate and Digital Shared Services (CDSS) branch.
As the Commercial and Contract Manager you will be supported by a high performing team, to develop your skills further and take responsibility for contracts that have been identified for specialist management attention.
You will manage ICT suppliers through the supplier life cycle from contract negotiation to contract end.
Additionally, you may be involved in a range of activities including monitoring performance, costs and contract compliance and providing recommendations that focus on improving supplier performance, value-for-money and/or deriving savings.
The Commercial and Contract Manager will:
• manage commercial activities assigned to them
• proactively manage contract change and ensure MBIE is compliant
• identify risks and issues, lead the implementation of mitigations
• manage expectations with key stakeholders both internally and externally
• escalate and manage disputes
• drive savings through rationalisation and optimisation of those arrangements

The Digital Operations Branch manages several MBIE wide ICT functions, while the ICT Asset and Supplier Management Team maintains their commercial and contract lifecycle activities, as well as the commercial relationships with our key technology suppliers.
The role will enable you to develop:
• analytical skills with the ability to think strategically
• experience with New Zealand’s largest ICT Suppliers
• an understanding of the legal frameworks in which the contract resides
• an understanding of how to navigate complex and ambiguous environments, processes, and governance structures to deliver to timeframes
• the ability to work effectively across a large, complex organisation
About you
We are seeking enthusiastic candidates with experience in Contract Management and knowledge of IT. In addition, we are looking for candidates with demonstratable experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Planning for and delivering commercial outcomes
• Contract Management lifecycle activities
• Negotiation skills
• Specific IT experience working for a New Zealand Supplier
• Government procurement or contract management experience
• a high-level of communication and relationship management skills is i.e., comfortable collaborating across all levels of the organisation
