Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The High and Complex Needs Service for Mental Health at Auckland District Health Board comprises the Buchanan Rehabilitation Centre and the Assertive Community Outreach Service both based in Point Chevalier, Auckland.
Assertive Community Outreach Service (ACOS) is an intensive Community Mental Health Team. The ACOS team works with people who have a history of poor engagement with mental health services and who present with high risk associated with their condition. The aim is to provide responsive treatment to Service Users/Tangata whai i te ora who require more flexibility and intensity of support. ACOS covers all of the Auckland District Health Board area.
Buchanan Rehabilitation Centre (BRC) is a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation service providing a therapeutic recovery oriented environment open to people residing in the Auckland DHB and Waitemata DHB areas. BRC accepts referrals of people aged 18 to 65 years although the majority of clients are under 30. Many present with the complex challenge of both severe mental illness and co-existing drug and/or alcohol problems.
There are three Full Time Equivalent Consultant Psychiatrist posts and a part time GP across this service group. In addition, there is a full time registrar at BRC and medical student placements.
We are looking for a full time Psychiatrist for ACOS however there may be some potential for flexibility. We’d be happy to discuss this with any interested people. BRC and ACOS are located in Point Chevalier, next door to each other. Either role will include being on the SMO after-hours on call roster.

Ideally you will be vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (www.mcnz.org.nz) with a current Annual Practising Certificate or eligible for the same. We are also happy to consider Locum Tenens or people on a provisional vocational pathway.
