About the team

Our Operations Process and Technology Improvement (OPTI) group supports the Operations division to deliver solutions required to manage the real time power system and prepare for an increasingly electrified future. https://www.transpower.co.nz/system-operator/our-system-operator-role

The group plays an essential role in proactively identifying the critical capabilities, skills, resources, and support needed to meet current and future operational needs. The group is working to optimise planning and investment decisions across key tools and processes (including SCADA applications, market systems, real time systems, and real time asset management technologies) utilised by our control rooms and other areas of Transpower.

The OPTI Process Modelling and Continuous Improvement team will provide process modelling and continuous improvement (CI) expertise to our Operations division, monitoring the efficiency of our processes and implementing incremental improvements. By establishing and maintaining an up-to-date process repository and CI capability, the team will lead in process modelling, foster a continuous improvement culture and deliver improvement to Operation's capability continuously.

A new opportunity

In this new role, supporting the Process Modelling and Continuous Improvement Manager and working closely with our Business Process Modeller, you'll shape, facilitate, and embed focused process improvements into Operations processes to enhance operational performance.

You'll play a key role in studying existing processes to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement alongside ensuring documentation and training support best practices, coaching and implementation of initiatives.  This will require you to work at all levels, building strong relationships with SME's and senior leaders across the System Operator.

By maintaining a prioritised backlog improvement initiatives, you'll identify and implement quality improvements that deliver value to Operations.  Ultimately, through your work, you'll support Aotearoa's energy future by optimising processes and driving efficiencies!

What will you bring?

Known for your outstanding people and analytical skills, and the ability to tackle complex problems, you'll have a passion for continuous improvement and a focus on delivery and outcomes.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • ~5+ years of experience working on successful CI improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing both technical and operational process streams.
  • The ability to assess training needs and the capability to deliver it.
  • A proven record of innovating, proposing new directions, and developing new concepts.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or certification in Lean Process Improvement (e.g., Lean Certification, Lean Six Sigma) or equivalent experience.
