Te āhua o Te Tūrunga - The nature of the position

Reporting to the Manaaki Scholarships Lead, this full-time fixed term role is accountable for managing contracts and relationships that support the delivery of the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship programme (MNZSP), New Zealand government's largest investment in international scholarships.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced contract specialist to provide expert advice and strategic oversight on contract terms, while supporting the efficient operation and sustainability of the scholarship programmes while delivering on organisational commitments.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako - Essential skills/experiences for the role

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Extensive contract management and commercial experience within government, a regulatory environment, or the private sector. Experience managing education providers preferred. 
  • Ability to skilfully negotiate contract terms with internal and external stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial agreements while maintaining positive relationships
  • High degree of political nous and a strong working knowledge of the machinery of government, including government policies and processes that influence contract management
  • In-depth understanding of contract management processes and frameworks within government, including alignment with Government Procurement Rules and All-of-Government initiatives
  • Experience managing change and complexity within dynamic contractual environments
  • Expertise in managing contractual processes, demonstrated by robust contract documentation, and a sound understanding of contract law. Some legal expertise would be useful but not required 
  • Ability to identify challenges and opportunities while delivering practical, well-informed solutions that align with organisational objectives
  • An understanding of the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to Aotearoa New Zealand and its connection to contract management and daily work
