  • Investigate, analyse, & record project costs from the various tools and systems
  • Build a pathway of accurate project costs for Cost Estimation
  • Develop automated models and scripts to capture project costs

Provide data analysis support to optimise cost estimation systems and processes supporting the investigation and delivery of grid capital projects and maintenance works.

About the team

Our Cost Estimation Team in Grid Development delivers an estimation service to support the investigation and delivery of our grid capital projects and volumetric maintenance works. This includes maintenance of the cost estimation data base and estimation processes ensuring project estimation accuracy.

The team supports over 50 project managers and engineers nationally through the preparation, development, and review of estimates and analysis of tenders and project outturn costs. The team provides historic estimation accuracy information to support reporting requirements to the Commerce Commission.

About the Opportunity

This 9-month fixed-term parental leave cover opportunity will see you supporting our Cost Engineering Systems Team Leader and wider Cost Engineering team. You will undertake a range of data analyst work that is focused on investigating, reviewing, analysing, and recording project costs from various accounting, inventory, and cost estimation tools and systems, including capturing and analysing third-party data.

This is a key role in the development and delivery of various data and analytics solutions (including reporting, dashboards, and scorecards) for our cost estimation team and internal customers.

You will be valued for your contribution supporting the continuous improvement of our data and analytics products, practices, processes, and capabilities, and for improving the accuracy of estimates that ultimately enable faster and better data-driven decisions and estimation.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate: 

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Applied experience with analytical tools, both Power BI and Python are required, and the likes of R, SQL, etc. would be useful tools in your wider skill set.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills including the ability to question astutely and investigate below the surface to produce insights.
  • A degree or equivalent tertiary qualification.
