We're looking for two (2) driven Data Analysts to join our Business Intelligence & Insights team to champion and promote evidence-based decision-making across Kāwai ki te Iwi / Service Delivery and Operations branch.

Te Waka Aukaha / Planning Design and Assurance Group provides a range of support and enabling services to Kāwai ki te Iwi branch, including strategy development, investment and business planning; performance measurement and reporting; organisational development; service and process design; business intelligence and insights; business risk and assurance and Te Ara Vaka Pacific.
The Business Intelligence and Insights team manages the data pipeline from data engineering, business intelligence, analysis and insights to support Kāwai ki te Iwi branch. It is the branch's analytics centre of excellence and contributes to a data-driven culture that adds value to Kāwai ki te Iwi's services and operations. It is focused on the delivery of business intelligence products, statistical modelling and data analysis that creates valuable insights to influence operational and policy decision-making.
He angitūtanga | About the Role
Reporting to Manager Business Intelligence & Insights, this is an exciting role that will be responsible for collecting, reporting, and analysing data to deliver data products (e.g. reports, analysis, dashboard) to support decision-making, promote a data-driven culture and make a difference to the essential services we provide for Aotearoa. This Data Analyst position is an excellent fit for someone looking to join an end-to-end data team that is embedded in service delivery, as it offers a unique opportunity to directly influence business outcomes, collaborate with key stakeholders, and translate data into insights that enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Work directly with various stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide timely, accurate insights and reports that support business decisions.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals and responsiveness to data needs.
- Perform analysis to identify trends, patterns, and key metrics that impact service delivery and other operational areas.
- Assist Senior Data Analysts in capturing and documenting the business rules, assumptions, and logic used in analytics and reporting.
- Work closely with Data Engineers to profile data sources, identify data quality issues, and support data cleaning and transformation activities.
- Regularly monitor data for inconsistencies or errors and work with others in the team to implement solutions for maintaining data accuracy and reliability.
- Identify areas for improvement within data handling, reporting processes, or analytics workflows and suggest solutions to enhance efficiency.
- Develop, automate and deploy Business Intelligence dashboards to provide visibility, improve business operations and uncover insights.
Mōu | About you
We are looking for someone who has a passion for data analytics, has great communications and people skills, is customer-focused, and willing to learn and work in a collaborative and fast-moving environment:
- Strong experience in data analytics (2 to 4 years), with a solid background in reporting and analysis, demonstrated by a proven ability to transform data into actionable insights that drive decision-making.
- Proficient in programming languages such as: SAS (essential), SQL, R, Python; and experience working with BI software such as: SAS Viya, Power BI, Tableau.
- Good practise data visualisation and data storytelling skills.
- Very strong customer focus & ability to engage with business users to understand and collect their requirement.
- Proven ability to deliver complex projects and working as part of a wider team to deliver successful outcomes.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor complex messages to a range of non-technical audiences/stakeholders.
- Understanding of or experience working in an agile environment (desirable)
