Te Tūranga | The Role 

We are looking for a skilled Data Solutions Architect to join the FMA's Data Engineering team. Reporting into the Manager, Data Engineering, and sitting within the wider Transformation and Operational Delivery function, this role will be responsible for designing and implementing effective data platforms that support the FMA's data driven initiatives. The FMA aims to be an outcomes focused regulator driven by data and intelligence, utilizing digital technology to boost productivity and effectiveness. This role is pivotal in this transformation and achieving ongoing objectives of the FMA. Your work will drive the creation of a single source of truth in data, generate intelligence, support analytics, and implement consistent data governance practices within the data engineering team and the FMA. 

This is an exciting opportunity that involves being a key driver of digital transformation within the FMA, shaping the future of financial market supervision and regulation. You will work on innovative projects that enhance New Zealand's financial markets, such as climate disclosure automation and financial scam prevention. Additionally, you will collaborate with international regulators and industry experts to adopt and adapt proven solutions. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Architect the FMAs data platforms and data solutions 
  • Establishing best data practices, frameworks, and guidelines 
  • Promoting innovation and collaboration to enhance the FMA's regulatory capabilities 
  • Using global RegTech and SupTech solutions, tailored for New Zealand's regulatory environment  
  • Mentoring peers and championing the strategic use of data 
  • Driving the development of a robust data management framework  

This role is open to both Wellington and Auckland locations. 

He kōrero mōu | About you 

You will bring with you proven experience in designing and delivering complex modern data solutions using modern data platforms and will possess strong expertise in data technologies, approaches and concepts. You are experienced in identifying business needs and translating them to sustainable data solutions. You are an exceptional communicator with the ability to translate solutions to non-technical audiences. You'll be both a strategic thinker who anticipates challenges and adapts quickly as well as a strong collaborator who builds relationships across teams. Ideally you will come from a financial services or regulatory background however most importantly you will have hands-on experience with programming languages such as Python as well as data query knowledge using TSQL, GraphQL, DAX and SPARQL.
