About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
The Delivery Team Manager (DTM) is primarily responsible for a team of Delivery Managers, Assistant Delivery Manager(s), Project Coordinator(s) and potentially a Senior Delivery Manager, who will collectively contribute to the delivery of your team’s allocated projects. The DTM will be responsible for the tactical organisation of resources (e.g. the DTM may also directly deliver projects) ensuring optimum utilisation and delivery of projects aligned with the Capital Works vision and values
You will be the first escalation point for issues on any project within your Delivery team and the single point of contact in the Ministry for schools and external consultants working on the projects you deliver directly.
Developing effective relationships and trust with your direct reports, with schools and other internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring that consultants and suppliers are working effectively and efficiently to deliver school infrastructure projects on time, to budget, and to scope, as set out in the project brief is vital. You must be an effective leader of people to ensure you get the best from the team and are able to instil a positive, collaborative culture across your Delivery Team.
You will follow and work within Ministry and Te Puna Hanganga, Matihiko policy, procedures, and guidelines.
Salary range: $121,139 - $181,709 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
Given the nature of the work, there are no essential qualifications - we will look more holistically at qualifications and experience. However, desired qualifications are noted below.
You will need to have a strong track record of using project management methodologies and organisational processes in achieving efficient outcomes with strong skills in managing risks and implementing lessons learnt. Your proven skills and experience are critical in leading and managing a team of professionals and critically important stakeholders at a project level.
You will be able to manage the pre-engagement, project brief development, planning, design, construction delivery and handover of each project to the agreed scope, schedule, budget and quality standards.
Maintaining an overview of budget requirements and expenditure of suppliers, identifying potential financial problems and their implications is critical to success in this role.
Monitoring progress, identifying emerging issues, risks, and problem solving ensuring all approval processes and any other programme agreed processes, procedures, standards, and guidelines are followed is business as usual for this position.
You will also offer:
- High level technical understanding of the New Zealand building industry, design and building processes.
- Understanding of contracting and procurement processes preferably for construction projects.
- An understanding of government decision making and operating procedures.
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
The Delivery Team Manager supports Te Mahau to build learning environments for our communities. We provide advice and support to Asset Management as our internal client; engage with Procurement and Legal on planning and with our suppliers to deliver a portfolio of projects in size from single teaching spaces through to multiple new buildings on a single school site.
Project values range between $750k to $20m and include provision for single and multiple teaching spaces on a school site.
