About the Role
As a Dental Assistant, you will support the Dental Therapist/Oral Health Therapist's day in chairside clinical assistance, patient records system, infection prevention and control and sterilisation processes and clinical administration. You will be supporting the patient through their dental experience. Our priority is to ensure our therapist staff are supported by an assistant which may require relocation from time to time.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our Western Bay of Plenty team of 28 Dental Therapists/Oral Health Therapists and 25 Dental Assistants provide a dental service for children aged from 0 to 12 years (Year 8). Our service comprises of 3x two chairs clinics based in Te Puke Intermediate, Arataki and Te kura o Maarawaewae (Greerton) Primary schools and 2x three chair clinics based at Otumoetai Primary and Tauranga Intermediate schools. We also have a fleet of four double surgery and six single chair Mobile Dental Units that service the area from Katikati to Matata.
About you
- Strong communication skills - Good written and oral communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and patients
- Organisational skills, to be able to work and contribute in a team setting
- To be punctual, reliable, have a good work ethic and integrity
- Attention to detail, following complex processes and clinical guidelines
- Professionalism in a workplace setting adhering to patient privacy and confidentiality
- Ideally experience in a health care setting or working with children/tamariki/youth/rangatahi. If you have no previous experience we offer 1:1 on the job training. At the beginning of each year we will support staff in attaining the NZDA Certificate in Dental Assisting. We have supported Dental Assistants in creating a career pathway to a Bachelor of Health Science (Oral Health).
