Mō te tūranga - About the role

We are looking for a Dental Assistant to assist our clinicians (Dentists and Dental/Oral Health Therapists) in the Community Oral Health Service.

You will assist in the provision of care for inpatient, outpatient and community-based patients/clients of Southland Hospital and Community Oral Health Service in Southland. You will work in the Hospital Service alongside Dentists and other Dental Assistants.

This role encompasses a balance of clinical (chair-side assistance) and some administrative support. The key focus of this role is ensuring a safe and clean environment is provided for patients, staff and visitors through appropriate sterilisation, maintenance and cleaning.

You will be a people person who enjoys working with people, is culturally sensitive, and excellent customer service will come to you naturally.

Ideally you will have current experience and be working as a qualified Dental Assistant within a private practice or a hospital setting, however we are willing to train someone who has the right attributes, and who is willing to work towards a qualification in Dental Assisting.

Flexibility is required to work between the hours of 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, and at times be able to undertake clinics elsewhere within the Southern region and also be able to participate on the weekend on-call roster.

Please note a full current driver licence is essential.

In order to be successful in this position, you will also need to demonstrate the following:

  • Very organised and able to manage time / resources
  • A good communicator, with well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Confident in using technology (e.g. computers, databases)
  • Willing to learn new systems - for which full training will be provided
  • Available to travel and work away from home in other areas of the Southern District as required

Utu whānui - Salary range

This role belongs to the PSA Allied, Public Health Scientific and Technical Collective Agreement and falls between Step 3 ($72,074 p.a) and Step 7 ($86,719 p.a pro-rata)
