Te Tari Taiwhenua Department of Internal Affairs ("DIA") touches the lives of all New Zealanders. We have a broad range of responsibilities and functions that span digitising government, documentary heritage, working with communities, ensuring effective regulatory frameworks are in place, supporting the executive and local government, and delivering a wide range of services, including for identity.

We are seeking an Executive Leader who will take an enterprise view first, without losing sight of the achievement of Branch responsibilities.

Reporting directly to the Secretary for Internal Affairs, and a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Deputy Secretary Digital Services is a dual focused position with responsibility as the Deputy Government Chief Digital Officer for the system leadership work on digitising government services, alongside enterprise accountability for the delivery of technology services and solutions within Te Tari Taiwhenua to ensure digital best practices and for DIA customers.

By fostering collaboration and providing strategic leadership, the Deputy Secretary works to ensure that New Zealand's public service can effectively leverage digital technologies to improve service delivery and meet the needs of citizens. Key responsibilities include:

  • providing leadership and strategic thinking to establish and drive the digital agenda and system settings for the public service
  • the delivery of a comprehensive portfolio of enabling functions for digital customer-centred services and IT capability across the public sector
  • improving the utilisation of digital technologies by the public sector
  • providing strategic direction and leadership of DIA's digital and technology functions, including direct responsibility of the DIA Chief Digital Officer

We are seeking senior executives who can demonstrate a successful track record of delivering digital solutions that create value, efficiency and security at an agency and system level. You will bring a deep understanding, knowledge and insight into the digital environment, emerging technologies and how digital technology is used across the public sector. Your collaborative approach where you encourage people to work together to achieve common objectives, and your ability to influence across the public or private sectors is key.

You will have a track-record of building high performing teams, at a senior /executive level in large, complex, dynamic organisations.
