Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated diesel mechanic to join a well-established company in the scrap metal recycling industry. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of their team in Wellington, ensuring their heavy machinery is maintained to the highest standard.
As part of our clients close-knit engineering team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of their machinery, including forklifts and excavators. You’ll work directly with drivers and machinery operators to identify and address any mechanical issues, as well as perform routine check-ups and scheduled services to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Responsibilities:
- Diagnosing and repairing forklifts, excavators, and other heavy machinery
- Performing scheduled maintenance and preventative services
- Troubleshooting mechanical issues in collaboration with operators
- Carrying out routine checks to ensure machinery is operating efficiently
- Keeping the workshop clean and ensuring compliance with safety practices
- Assisting with other tasks across the yard as required
What we’re looking for:
- At least 3 years in diesel mechanics, particularly with heavy machinery (forklifts, excavators, etc)
- Full class 1 license, F endorsement would be a bonus
- Ability to work autonomously, with a reliable and responsible attitude
- A proactive approach with attention to detail in diagnosing and fixing issues
- Expertise in hydraulic fittings and repairs, as well as general maintenance
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with team members and operators
