Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity'

Reporting to the Manager Asset Management Direction, this key role leads the newly created digital enablement function, and is responsible for setting the direction of digital enablement for Transport Services.

Keeping the entire asset lifecycle front and centre at all times, this role will fly the flag for digital enablement at Waka Kotahi creating the vision, strategic direction and roadmap.

A continuous improvement mindset is critical to this role with a responsibility for leading Transport Services wide improvements to drive changes in how things are delivered through digital enablement, ensuring the digital enablement strategy remains future focused and fit for purpose.

This role will see you work across the broader ecosystem of digital practices, ways of working and tooling that enable the strategic and operational management of our assets while ensuring the ongoing integrity of digital enablement practices through appropriate oversight and governance.

To be successful in this role you will have proven extensive experience in leading digital enablement strategy development and implementation along with people leader experience in developing and leading diverse and remote high performing teams.

Ko koe tēnei | About you'

  • Extensive experience in leading digital enablement strategy development and implementation, particularly in the early stages of team creation
  • Preferably a background in transport infrastructure with a strong and demonstrable business acumen
  • Proven ability to build and maintain highly collaborative relationships with a range of senior stakeholders, including understanding different stakeholders motivations
  • Strong influencing skills and open transparent work style
  • Experience applying in-depth analysis to complex issues
  • Highly effective planning and organisational skills including time management and prioritising work in a complex work environment
  • Proven experience, in-depth knowledge and understanding of Digital Enablement strategies, complex roll out of new digital ways of working and ongoing support and continuous improvement practices.
  • Effective risk identification, mitigation and valuation.
  • A deep understanding of the AMDS, ISO 19650, NZ BIM Handbook
  • A relevant Digital Engineering/Business tertiary qualification is desirable
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector

The focus of the Transport Services group is to provide, improve and maintain an integrated land transport system to effectively enable people-centred, technology-enabled, system focused transport services, in partnership with other system providers. The Roads of National Significance (RoNS) are vital state highway projects that will drive economic growth and productivity through faster, more efficient transport connections that reduce travel times and create a safer, more resilient roading network.

These projects, once complete, will stimulate economic growth by supporting new housing developments and enhancing export market links, ensuring people and freight can reach their destinations quickly and safely.

With a focus on innovative funding and delivery models, we're aiming to break ground within the next three years as part of a 10-year construction pipeline, transforming New Zealand's transport network and keeping the country moving.
