The Government of Tokelau is again calling for applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Director of Education.

Key Result Areas:

  1. Lead the development, implementation, and reporting against the Tokelau Education Strategic Plan 2026-2030.
  2. Lead and manage the operations of the Department of Education, develop and monitor annual budget and manage staff to ensure the education sector long-term strategic targets and objectives are achieved.
  3. Advise on the development and implementation of policies for the efficient and effective use of financial and human resources in the provision of a relevant education system to improve student achievement.
  4. Facilitate effective communications with internal stakeholders and the provision of good information that will allow them to make informed decisions and enhance the quality of teaching and learning at the school level.
  5. Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of measurable standards of teaching, learning and education delivery to enhance student achievement.
  6. Lead and coordinate the Department of Education relationship with external and internal key stakeholders.
  7. Manage and coordinate the Tokelau Scholarship Scheme.

 

Applicants should demonstrate how they meet the following position requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification from a recognised educational institution (at least a Master's Degree).
  • At least 10 years of proven management and leadership experience in the field of education development across the whole of the education levels from ECE to Post School Education and Training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of education in small countries (like Tokelau).
  • Must be resourceful with proven ability to be a self-starter and have initiated appropriate actions that resulted in positive outcomes.
  • Sound planning and organisational skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • An effective team player with a high level of self-motivation, integrity and the personal discipline required to work without supervision.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical and communication skills both oral and writing in English and Tokelauan.
  • Proactive, pragmatic, flexible, innovative and able to deliver results.
  • Willingness to live in an isolated island community.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity of Tokelauan culture and customs (knowledge of the Tokelauan language preferred but not essential).
