The Improvement, Systems and Technology Group (IST) collaborates and enables MSD people(staff) and partners with effective technology and expertise so that; 

  • New Zealanders can access essential support and social services
  • MSD can respond fast to Government direction, policy settings, emergency events, and changing public needs
  • MSD can improve its services by enabling modern and digital capabilities to become a more responsive organisation

 

IST also supports Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People, Mana Mokopuna – Children and Young People's Commission, the Social Wellbeing Agency and Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children.

IST is transforming and organising itself into a platform and capabilities model for delivery of business services with newly established platform teams requiring passionate, driven, and experienced technology leaders to pave the way and support MSD's transformation. 

Platform teams are closely supported by Practice teams who help foster continuous improvement, learning, collaboration, and building our people expertise.

  • We enable and improve our alignment to our business & transformation strategies and future services model; Ensuring the Business and Technology are talking a common language – we are synchronising and aligned on the capabilities required by the business to do its job well and IST are enabling technology and application services in a responsive and proactive manner
  • Ensuring Architectural & Design Coherence; By being aligned on business strategies and the capabilities required to support the business, IST can invest its energy in architecting its technology, applications and data landscape that is coherent, secure, scales and is adaptable to change as needed.  In addition, establish solid standards, guardrails and governance across our architecture and design disciplines to ensure we prioritise quality over expedient solutions
  • Enabling Delivery excellence; making significant improvements in the way we work to take friction out of the system, mature our processes, tools, and lift the expertise of our people and teams

Tēnei tūranga | About the role

MSD's transformation strategy brings with it a newly established opportunity for a Director Portfolio Engagements to join the Improvement, Systems and Technology group. Tasked with the responsibility of leading the teams and departments responsible for engaging with MSD's portfolios, the Director Portfolio Engagement will play a pivotal role in leading and collaborating IST's engagement with the business portfolios to help shape, provide advice, prioritise, and enable delivery of strategic change initiatives. This role is closely supported by the platform manager, platform capability leads, platform delivery leads and the wider platform teams as required.

 

Takohanga tuhinga o mua | Key accountabilities and deliverables

  • Engaging closely with senior stakeholders across service delivery portfolios to shape and prioritise work demand into IST delivery roadmaps
  • Engaging with transformation workstreams to align and manage prioritisation of business-as-usual change initiatives and transformation workstream initiatives
  • Ensuring IST resources are proactively engaging with service portfolio stakeholders to shape work, recommended strategically aligned solutions and provide high quality, well thought out project delivery estimations
  • Work closely with platform delivery leads to ensure the capacity to respond to portfolio demands are properly planned
  • Bring together stakeholders to foster business and technical collaboration for planning and design, dealing with road-blocks and escalations, and steering delivery decisions toward intended outcomes
  • Implement strategies to improve delivery outcomes, engagement processes and establish clarity of alignment with service portfolio goals

 

Ko wai koe | About You

You will bring:

  • Solid experience in a client facing and senior stakeholder engagement, having delivered technology solutions in response to changing business needs
  • Strong leadership experience in planning and prioritisation using Agile frameworks, with the ability to shape business and technical needs into delivery outcomes
  • An open, transparent, upfront approach and collaborator, who has strong technical knowledge and its applications in the context delivering software solutions for the business
  • Confident in high level management negotiations and participating in governance and steering group forums
  • Demonstrated experience in leading transformative changes across a shared service workforce in a large complex organisation

Salary range: $172,461.00 - $254,555.00
