Service/Department: Emergency Department, Intensive Care Services, and Transport Services
Contract: Permanent, 1.0 FTE (80 hours per fortnight)
About the role:
Health New Zealand, Te Matau-a-Māui - Hawkes Bay is offering an exciting and high-impact opportunity for an Operational Manager to lead the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Services, and Transport Services. This is a key leadership role where you will be responsible for the operational oversight of these critical services, providing senior management support to the General Manager and contributing to the overall success of our hospital.
Your role will involve managing complex services in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while ensuring seamless service delivery. You will be responsible for leading and motivating multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that we deliver high-quality patient care while achieving both departmental and national healthcare objectives. Your contributions will directly affect patient outcomes, staff performance, and service efficiency across the emergency, intensive care, and transport departments.
As Operational Manager, you will also have a significant role in shaping the future of these services, developing strategies for improvement, addressing challenges, and ensuring the continuous development of your teams. Skills and experience:
To succeed in this role, you will need to be an experienced leader with a strong background in healthcare management. You will be expected to lead by example, providing clear direction and inspiring your teams to meet and exceed patient care standards. Specifically, we are looking for candidates who possess:
- Extensive experience in health services management, particularly within emergency, intensive care, or transport services, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality care.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with experience in overseeing large, multidisciplinary teams in a hospital or clinical setting.
- Experience in change management and quality improvement, with a strong ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
- A patient-centered approach to healthcare management, ensuring that every decision and action taken aligns with our mission to provide the best care possible for our community.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, capable of navigating complex operational challenges and implementing effective solutions.
- Experience contributing to National Health Targets, with a focus on improving key performance indicators across the service areas.
