Northland Region Corrections Facility (NRCF) is nestled in the heart of Te Tai Tokerau. On the whenua of Ngati Rangi, NRCF has been operating since it's establishment in 2005. The site is a temporary home for the up to 592 men. NRCF is a site with a strong passion for Rehabilitation and Reintegration. Established as a facility it seeks to transform the approach towards caring for the men in our care via the Hokai Rangi strategy, and the Maori Pathways project. This project seeks to establish a strong kaupapa Maori approach to the work that NRCF undertakes, whilst ensuring a strong focus on risk management and staff safety.

Mō te tūnga | About the role 

As an Education Tutor you will be support a variety of education programmes and activities offered to the men in our care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Administering Literacy and Numeracy Adult Assessment Tools (LNAATs)
  • Developing a pathway for learning with people in our care
  • Assisting people in our care in our secure online learning suite to improve job search skills
  • Encourage prison-based learners to improve their literacy and numeracy skills
  • Support engagement in self-directed learning
  • Ensure all relevant learner information is recorded

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience 

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our education team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support prison-based learners to become better prepared for employment and/or further education.  To be successful you will bring the following:

  • Experience assessing and working with young people and adults who have not previously had education success
  • A tertiary qualification and/or qualification in adult education
  • Demonstrated competency in using computer applications including Microsoft Office suite and the TEC Literacy and Numeracy Adult Assessment Tool (LNAAT)
  • Sound knowledge of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework
  • Experience in engaging with Māori, Pasifika and at-risk youth in education
  • A strengths-based approach that embraces manaakitanga and whanaungatanga

A full driver's license is essential for this position. The preferred applicant will also demonstrate exceptional communication and organisation skills as well as the ability to influence, inspire and motivate. You must also legally be able to work fulltime in New Zealand (work visa must have a remaining period of minimum 12 months)

Utu ā-tau | Salary

The salary range for this position is $75,341 - $83,643, Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
