About the team  

Our Digital Strategy and Architecture team in our award-winning ICT division (https://www.transpower.co.nz/news/market-system-transformation-nets-transpower-2024-red-hat-innovation-award) helps ensure that electricity is delivered to all New Zealanders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by maintaining and evolving complex critical IT systems.   

As Enterprise Business Architect, you will be part of the team that is responsible for developing and managing Transpower's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) strategy, enterprise architecture and defining the roadmap for the acquisition or development of ICT solutions that support Transpower's strategic business objectives. 

To deliver on the business aligned ICT strategy and plans, the Strategy and Architecture team leads the development and maintenance of business aligned enterprise and domain architectures for information, security, applications, and infrastructure (includes telecommunications and networking) through a process of organisation wide collaboration and consultation. 

About the opportunity  

As a strategic thinker and trusted advisor, you will be known for bridging the gap between business and ICT capability. This role engages senior business stakeholders, as Enterprise Business Architect, to understand and clarify their business drivers and objectives and help drive alignment between business and ICT strategies and planning to support more effective delivery of digitally enabled change programmes and associated business outcomes.     

The focus for the Enterprise Business Architect is on defining a comprehensive blueprint of Transpower's core functions, value streams, business capabilities, and information flows. The role works closely with the domain Principal Architects and facilitates the assessment of the current state, define common building blocks and options to drive business efficiency and value through effective and efficient delivery of common digitally enabled capabilities, data and insights. The role collaborates with Principal Architects to develop and communicate an integrated and multi-horizon capability change roadmap that drives the business and ICT capability alignment and delivery of business outcomes and value.

What you'll bring  

With demonstrable ability to position yourself as a trusted advisor between the business and IT, translating complex technical knowledge into actionable, outcome-driven strategies and plans, you will be adept at visualising and modelling to aid future state analysis and road mapping.  You will be experienced applying business architecture models to facilitate current state assessments with the business stakeholders/SMEs to identify capability gaps and opportunities for improvement.  

We are seeking proven success driving effective engagement with senior business stakeholders and hands on experience leading the development and maintenance of practical business architecture models and blueprints including; 

  •  business function model 
  • business capability model
  • core value streams model 
  • information model and
  • information flows using good practice frameworks and methods  

Your strong problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to anticipate and provide practical solutions, will see you adept at providing architectural leadership, compliment by a consultative style and confidence that is backed by your experience leading the delivery of architectures and standards, including setting guidelines and enabling consistent delivery of technology services. Your experience will include defining project scope, specification and time/effort.

The nature of our organisation lends toward cross-functional stakeholder delivery teams.  As such you will need proven experience effectively communicating (written and verbal) and working directly with senior stakeholders including influencing, translating and presenting ideas and solutions in simple terms to senior leaders and Executive General Managers. 

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will be underpinned by a relevant degree and demonstrate:  

Proven professional experience working in enterprise business architecture for a national or international organisation including the provision of options or evaluation or evaluation of enterprise business architecture, we are seeking applications that evidence: 

  •  10+ years' professional experience in business analysis, project management, and business consultancy. 
  • 5+ years' professional experience as an enterprise architect including business architecture 5+ years working in strategy development and planning for business and/or technology. 
  • Prior experience in communicating and working directly with senior stakeholders including influencing, translating and presenting ideas and solutions in simple terms to senior leaders and Executive General Managers (EGMs). 
  • Excellent stakeholder relationship skills, including the ability to provide insightful, persuasive and trusted advice to a diverse range of senior stakeholders  Whilst not essential a general understanding of the nature and design of the electricity industry's core business processes will be viewed as advantageous.
