About the role | Mō te tūnga
Responsibilities and tasks will vary between companies and roles:

Responsibilities for Construction Labourers
Site Preparation and Clean-up:
  • Assist in preparing construction sites by removing debris, hazards, and obstacles.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment throughout the project.
Material Handling:
  • Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure the correct materials are available at the worksite when needed.
Basic Construction Tasks:
  • Assist with basic construction activities, including digging trenches, setting up scaffolding, and pouring concrete.
  • Operate hand and power tools as required for specific tasks.
Safety Compliance:
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Assisting Skilled Tradespeople:
  • Support carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other tradespeople by providing tools and materials.
  • Perform simple tasks under the direction of skilled workers.
Operating Equipment:
  • Operate light construction machinery, such as forklifts or compactors, under supervision.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment.
Construction Support:
  • Assist in the assembly and tear down of temporary structures, such as scaffolding.
  • Help with the installation of fixtures and fittings.
Responsibilities for Hammer hands
Carpentry Support:
  • Assist carpenters with cutting, shaping, and assembling wood and other materials.
  • Follow instructions to carry out framing, bracing, and other carpentry tasks.
Tool Handling:
  • Handle and maintain carpentry tools, ensuring they are in good working order.
  • Prepare and organise tools and materials for carpentry tasks.
Measurement and Cutting:
  • Measure and cut materials according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Ensure accuracy in all measurements and cuts to meet project requirements.
Installation Assistance:
  • Help with the installation of doors, windows, cabinets, and other fixtures.
  • Assist in the construction and installation of frameworks and other structural components.
Site Layout:
  • Assist in setting out the site according to project plans, including marking out areas for construction.
  • Ensure all measurements and alignments are accurate and adhere to specifications.
Safety Adherence:
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines during carpentry tasks.
  • Use PPE and safety equipment as required.
Quality Control:
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Make adjustments or repairs as needed under the direction of a carpenter.
