The Fabricator/Welder that we are looking to add into this team will be repsonsible for building metal structures by cutting, bending, and assembling.
Key Responsibilities:
Fabrication
• Interpret workshop plans and drawings for structural steel fabrications
• Interprets ISO pipe plans and drawings for fabrication
• Correctly identify weld symbols stated on the plan
• Identify component material correctly required for fabrication jobs
• Relate cut parts identification to the workshop plan and fabrication
• Mark out and lay out projects accurately
• Design, fabricate and use template, jigs and fixtures competently
• Straighten and align fabrication components using porter power jacks, dogs and wedges, chain hoists and lever blocks, turn buckle braces, turfors, drift pins, clamps, pry bars and hammers
• Heating and shrinking of metal components
• Control or minimise distortion associated with fabrications
• Verify work piece conformance to stated measurements and angles using measuring tapes, protractors, squares, straight edges, string lines, steel rulers and laser levels
• Demonstrate good skill in the use of hand tools including gas cutting, bevelling and angle grinding •
Relevant specification paperwork is checked, signed off and given to the supervisor
Welding
• Correctly identify weld symbols stated on the plan
• Control or minimise welding distortion • Complies to relevant welding codes and procedures
• Welding meets QA/QC work pack standards
Use of plant and equipment
• Lift or move materials and finished products, using gantry cranes, in a safe and correct fashion
• Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise to form and assemble metal components
• Ensure all equipment is fit for purpose before operating
• Check equipment is safe before use and report any defect to the main store or Supervisor
Maintenance shutdowns and site work
• Participate in planned maintenance shutdowns for various site plants (including petrochemical plants) when required.
• Participates in general site work when required , i.e. structural steel erection, site fabrication projects
Health and safety
• Understand and apply all relevant site Health and Safety company rules, procedures, industry codes of practice and safety legislation
• Continually assess own safety and actively promote safe work practices
• Report all incidents, accidents and near misses
• When injured, inform the Company immediately of any injury
Qualifications
Trade Certificate or acknowledged as a time served tradesman, ASME IX/1554 welding qualification or the ability to pass the qualification
Skills
Heavy Engineering experience and the ability to read and interpret construction/workshop drawing
