DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY & ANAESTHESIA

UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO WELLINGTON

We are seeking an Assistant Research Fellow to be part of our Department of Surgery and Anaesthesia at the University of Otago, Wellington. This research programme is focused on the molecular biology of cancer, mainly endometrial, ovarian and colorectal cancers.

The role/Te mahi

You will help run the cancer biobanks, which includes gaining patient consent at Wellington Hospital (CCDHB), collecting specimens from surgery and processing samples. You will be required to liaise with clinicians and researchers to complete these tasks.

Other key tasks of this role will include the following:

  • Completing experiments
  • Contributing to manuscripts and grant applications
  • Supporting research students
  • Lab maintenance
  • Administration (such as finance and ordering)

Once trained, you will be responsible for the day-to-day independent running of the projects with minimal supervision.

A period of appropriate training and supervision will be provided for this position; however, candidates should have a background in molecular biology.

The position requires a high degree of responsibility, exceptional communication skills and self-organisation.

This is a full-time (1FTE), fixed-term position for eleven months, located in Wellington.

The salary range for this position is $58,341 to $78,531.
