Whangārei Hospital is seeking a specialist gastroenterologist to join Te Whatu Ora, Te Tai Tokerau. This is a part-time position (0.8 FTE) for 6 months to cover maternity leave. There are no on call or general medicine duties.
Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care services for the region supported by three district hospitals in Kaitaia; Bay of Islands and Dargaville. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a growing population of more than 190,000.
Te Whatu Ora is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.
You will be joining a department where there are strong collegial relationships between gastroenterology, surgery and medicine. This role is based in Whangārei with opportunities to conduct gastroenterology outpatient clinics and procedures within our rural hospitals. We are looking for a motivated team player to bring their enthusiasm for gastroenterology and endoscopy to Northland.
The subtropical Northland region stretches upwards from Auckland to the very top of NZ covering an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a growing population. Northland is a story of two coastlines – the west coast is rugged and soulful while the east coast is relatively more sophisticated and urbane. To be considered you must have or be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, in an Internal Medicine scope of practice. Ideally you will possess FRACP or an equivalent qualification. However, we are open to hearing from advanced trainees nearing completion of their training.
