Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are looking to recruit to a Specialist Gastroenterologist to join our team at Waikato Hospital.


As a successful Gastroenterologist you will play a key role in the day to day activities of the department with clinics/endoscopy and ward duties, plus on call commitments when rostered.


The appointee will be involved in teaching, continuing medical education and quality improvement. 


There is emphasis on ongoing development of services to meet the needs of our patients. A commitment to customer focus, service development and teamwork are essential.

Mō tātou Ratonga | About our Service

The current team consists of 9 Gastroenterologists, Specialists Nurses in Hepatology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease and two Nurse Endoscopists. We have two advanced trainees and one fellow as part of the national training scheme.


We offer a comprehensive Gastroenterology services at Waikato. From acute and elective care to advanced interventional procedures like ERCP and EUS, we provide top-notch care.


Our outpatient services cover the full range of gastroenterology and hepatology, while inpatient beds are available for IBD and Hepatology. Collaborative clinics, clinical research, and training opportunities make us a leader in the field.



Mōu | About you

Required skills & experience you will need to be consider for this role:

  • Possess specific clinical skills in endoscopic procedures essential
  • Registered with the New Zealand Medical Council (or have qualification that are immediately registerable) and have appropriate postgraduate qualifications
