This role is critical in leading the region's capital delivery programme for water services, ensuring that essential projects are completed efficiently and effectively during a period of transition. We are looking for a leader to join an operational leadership team that is dedicated to driving progress, helping Wellington Water to act as a smart purchaser of services on behalf of our shareholding councils, and demonstrating value of money, while ensuring we continue to maintain the high standards our communities expect now and in the future.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Group Manager Capital Delivery provides leadership over the design and delivery of the three-year rolling capital programme that delivers fit for purpose three waters infrastructure solutions for shareholders.
Your leadership and oversight are critically important in ensuring the success of our externally procured consultancy and contractor services. You will play a key role in the effective and efficient execution of our capital programme by building strong relationships with delivery partners, driving performance, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
As a key relationship holder, you will engage with the Wellington Water Board and shareholder governance committee, and elected council members to align strategy with capital programme goals and Wellington Water's strategic goals.
Through effective communication and programme leadership, you will collaborate with the Group Managers for Treatment and Control Systems and Network Maintenance to form a strong Operations Leadership Group, ensuring Wellington Water's services remain reliable, affordable, and meet community needs.
About you
As a Senior Leader that is responsible for the delivery of the capital work programme, you will have significant project and programme leadership experience, with the ability to build trust and gain buy-in from governing and external stakeholders.
Additionally, you will have:
- a relevant tertiary degree with a deep understanding of water engineering, engineering design principles
- significant leadership experience with the ability to create infrastructure programme practices and policies that reduce and identify organisational risks
- commercial and contractual procurement and legislative acumen having previously structured large multi-disciplined programmes involving external consultancy panels
- financial planning and budget development experience for the purpose of reporting, workforce, and programme planning
- effective performance planning and reporting skills, with the ability to adeptly provide insightful updates to key governing stakeholders
- excellent relationship management skills and the ability to identify and build good engagement strategies.
