 Ko ake mahi - What you'll do

Lead our Ministry's engagement with Waitangi Tribunal inquiries, Iwi, and Māori sector stakeholders. This role also provides critical support to the Hauora Māori Committee and ensures Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and Māori health equity are embedded across the health sector.

  • Lead strategic direction and planning for Māori Crown Relations, including managing Waitangi Tribunal inquiries and supporting the Hauora Māori Committee.
  • Provide senior leadership and influence the Ministry's response to Māori Crown engagements, working directly with Iwi and Māori health stakeholders.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships across the health sector, government, Iwi, Te Arawhiti, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and guide the team to deliver high-quality advice and achieve results through well-planned, strategic approaches.
  • Champion the Ministry's values and ensure Māori health equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations are prioritized and integrated.

 You are a proven leader with a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Māori health equity, and the complexities of engaging with Māori sector stakeholders. Your ability to build relationships, provide strategic direction, and lead high-performing teams will be key to succeeding in this role.

  • Knowledge and experience in government in a leadership and influential role in relation to policy, Māori-Crown relations and Te Tiriti o Waitangi claims and issues
  • Advanced knowledge of the machinery of Government, risk management, commissioning services, managing at the political interface
  • Demonstrated experience in the health and iiwi/Māori sectors
  • Significant experience in a senior level position with a wide span of control and leading leaders
  • Extensive experience in Māori development and significant iwi/Māori relationships and networks

The Group Manager Māori Crown Relations leads the Ministry's response to all relevant Waitangi Tribunal inquiries as well as other Māori Crown engagements with the Māori sector stakeholders and partners including Iwi. This is a critical role which sits on the Senior Leadership team within the Māori Health directorate.
