About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Hand Therapist to join our dedicated team. As a Hand Therapist, you will play a vital role in helping patients regain their independence and improve their quality of life after hand and upper limb injuries or surgeries. This is an exciting opportunity for a therapist who is passionate about rehabilitation and enjoys making a meaningful difference in people's lives. Main Responsibilities:

  • Assess and treat patients with hand and upper limb conditions, designing personalised rehabilitation plans to restore function and mobility.
  • Provide a range of therapeutic interventions, including splinting, manual therapy, and exercise programs.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care and optimal recovery.
  • Educate patients on self-management techniques, ergonomic strategies, and injury prevention.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and progress notes in accordance with professional standards and organisational guidelines.

 

The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific and Technical Collective Agreement. Additional benefits include kiwisaver contributions (if eligible), professional development and wellness support.

About the Team

You will joining a dynamic team at Meade Clinical Centre on the Waikato Hospital campus, with opportunities to visit our rural hospitals to offer expert clinical input. As part of the service, you'll be exposed to a diverse range of complex cases, providing you with a rewarding and varied clinical experience. You'll collaborate closely with both the plastics and orthopaedic surgeons, so we are looking for someone who thrives in a team environment and appreciates the importance of a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

About you

You will either be a Registered Hand Therapist, Associate Hand Therapist or Occupational Therapist that:

  • Holds a degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • Is registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand
  • Holds a current NZ annual practicing certificate
  • Possess a strong understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy, hand conditions, and rehabilitation techniques
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Acts with integrity; has a compassionate approach and genuine desire to help others on their recovery journey
