This is an opportunity for an experienced leader to turn strategy into action and steer performance objectives towards desired organisational outcomes. This is achieved by executing effective, business planning, performance reporting and Local Government Information Meeting Act functions.

This position is fixed-term until late September 2025.

The opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Corporate Services Officer the successful applicant will lead a team to deliver business planning, support the development and delivery of the organisational strategy, and ensure Wellington Water's planning, external and internal reporting and accountability requirements are delivered and integrated. The Head of Business Planning will engage with internal and external stakeholders and provide technical leadership and advice, within Wellington Water, to ensure business groups have an up-to-date understanding of their obligations to deliver organisational strategy, planning, reporting, and accountability processes. The role currently includes the responsibility for Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act responses.

Key activities will include the following:

  • Corporate planning and reporting - lead the development, operationalisation of, and reporting against, the company Statement of Intent, company business plan, organisational capability plan and other review recommendations as assigned
  • Finalise the Draft Statement of Intent to published version
  • Develop the Annual Report, and once approved, arrange publishing
  • Company Business Planning - ensure group business planning is in place and integrates with the wider asset advice and budgets available
  • Ensure the development and delivery of accurate and extensive performance reporting, including managing the development and delivery of the Regional Performance Framework
  • Ensuring the LGOIMA team are supported to deliver on this function

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring the following:

  • Understanding and ability to navigate the machinery of council governance
  • Significant leadership and performance reporting management experience
  • Experience reporting and driving business performance
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills to develop accountability documents, Board and Wellington Water Committee papers.
  • Understanding of LGOIMA and ability to support the team of two develop the function
