About the Role
This is a permanent position working 64 hours a fortnight (0.8FTE) within our Inpatient Unit at Wairau Hospital. The Inpatient Unit covers a variety of medical and surgical specialties and you will be working rostered and rotating AM: 0645 - 1515, PM: 1430 - 2300, Night shifts: 2230 - 0700) from Monday to Sunday.
As a Health Care Assistant you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, basic patient observations, some clinical tests and monitoring and other tasks as directed by the Registered Nurse.

About you
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
- You will have a mature outlook, the ability to get on with a wide variety of people
- good information technology (IT) skills (especially with MS Excel and Word) and excellent organisational and communication skills.
- You will also have the ability to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrating honesty and reliability, and will be adaptable to change, use appropriate initiative and respond flexibly to service needs.
- Experience within the health sector is preferred, but is not essential as full training will be provided.
- NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, will be offered once orientation requirements have been completed.
Qualifications
Essential
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
- NZQA level 3 qualification (or equivalent)*
