For generations Māori have asserted our rights to radio spectrum, leading to significant milestones in the recognition and promotion of Te Reo Māori. In 2022, the Crown recognised Māori interests in the radio spectrum and agreed to establish Tū Ātea.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
The Tū Ātea Innovation Programme creates new routes into invention and entrepreneurship and supports the acceleration of Māori-owned startups, groups and businesses that are tackling innovations that are intelligent and scalable and can be potentially commercialised – and that solve real-world problems. It will do this by creating a practical and highly supported environment that offers a new generation of Māori innovators support to create, test, launch and deploy their innovations.
Reporting to the Innovation Programme Manager, the Innovation Operations person will provide in-person support for the physical innovation centre space, technical operations and functions, and users of the space. They will manage the space, equipment and resources and ensure its care, upkeep, maintenance. They will provide practical technical support and from time to time, arrange training, workshops and catering to the centre’s users and maintain direct positive engagement with partners and founders. They will ensure a welcoming space for all visitors and users, report to the
Innovation programme manager and interact with all the Tū Ātea team, and together drive successful programme outcomes.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- High maturity in Te Reo and Tikanga and able to navigate varied cultural environments
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in similar field
- Strong competency in telecommunications & technology sectors – specifically hardware and software related to radio engineering or related fields
- Proficient in stakeholder engagement and strong relationship management skills
- Ability to gather and analyse data and metrics to inform decision-making
- Experience working with learners, innovators, and partners
- Knowledge of the telecommunications industry and ability to self-learn
