At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te Pā Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. We collect and analyse intelligence and security concerns to protect New Zealand from threats such as foreign interference, espionage and terrorism.
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to step into a people manager role within our Intelligence Directorate.
The role:
As the Intelligence Capability Unit Manager, you will head up a unit whose key focus is to deliver effective intelligence capability, ensuring operational units and missions are enabled to deliver on our mission of keeping New Zealand and New Zealanders safe and secure. This role has wide scope, with the primary focus being operational capability and putting our already established framework into practice. That being said, there is stretch to the scope of the role, and you will have the opportunity to lead the strategic focus and priorities across the Intelligence Directorate.

You will also be surrounded by a leadership team who understand the complexities of the unique environment we operate in, while equipping you with the tools to enable a high-performing unit.
The appointing range for this position is $142,093 - $151,566.
Who we are looking for
In order to be successful in this role, you will need to be able to look at a range of capability requirements and work with a range of stakeholders to plan and deliver future maintenance of our capabilities. You will enjoy working under pressure and have pride in delivering solutions that will directly enable our operational staff. You will also have the strategic level ability to drive a capability framework in an operational context and have had relevant experience establishing a multi-year work plan.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in intelligence capability, preferably intelligence operational capability.
We are also looking for you to be:

- Effective at building and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Flexible and adaptable
- Innovative with strong multi-tasking and planning skills
Your background should include leadership, experience in intelligence; operational/project management, exposure to intelligence collection, with strong relationship management.

Before you apply
Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure you're eligible for employment.
You must:
- Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years
OR
Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
- Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
- Ordinarily, this means you'll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
