Location: Wellington Region 

Service:    MHAIDS, General Health

Contract:  Fixed Term (January - December 2025), Part Time (0.8FTE / 4 days per week / Monday - Thursday with Friday as study leave)

Salary:  $53,055.20 (0.8 pro rata)

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We are looking for intern psychologists to work with tangata whaiora across services within MHAIDS and General health under supervision as part of their final intern year before qualification. The successful candidate will be about to undertake their final intern year on a clinical or specialist training program with a University provider which is currently NZ psychology board registered. You will be working under close supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess and diagnose people experiencing a range of issues including coexisting mental health and addiction issues. You will be required to develop sound psychological formulations based on thorough assessments. You will also be required to complete psychological interventions under supervision.

  • CAMHS - Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services  (iCAFs)-, Lower Hutt, Porirua, Wellington and Kapiti.
  • Te Whare Marie - Kaupapa Maori MH (Adult & Child)
  • Health Pasifika Adult and Child services
  • Early Intervention in Psychosis Service
  • CREDS - Eating Disorders
  • CEDS - Co Existing Drug Services (Adelaide Rd)
  • Older Adult MH services
  • Specialist Maternal Mental Health (SMMH)
  • Consult Liaison Services
  • Te Whare O Matarangi (inpatient service - wellington)
  • ID Services
  • Regional Rehabilitation and Extended Care Inpatient Services

General Health Internships

  • Cancer support - full year for a health psychology intern

Please note we are unable to mix and match a MHAIDS placement with General Health, due to funding streams but we will support interns across MHAIDs and General Health to have quality experiences in their internship year.

Moū - About you

The ideal candidate(s) will have a solid understanding of mental health, addictions, physical health and social issues that impact our clients, their whanau and the community. They will have a proven academic and clinical track record as a psychology student (undergraduate and post graduate) and have a willingness and desire to apply their skills and knowledge in a specialist health setting, under supervision.  Candidates must be enrolled in a NZ psychology board registered tertiary level course (e.g. clinical psychology programme). They must have already completed a Bachelor - s Degree in Psychology, and are concurrently working on a Masters or PhD in applied psychology (e.g Clinical or child and family). Our preferred candidate will have completed their research and be ready to commence work in 2025.
