Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

About us

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko is an independent Crown entity that regulates the electricity market. We are a kaitiaki of electricity, and our purpose is to enhance New Zealanders' lives, prosperity, and environment through electricity.

The electricity industry is at a pivotal moment, with the journey towards renewable energy sources and innovation reshaping how we operate. To meet these challenges and opportunities, we're evolving as an organisation - growing our capabilities, expanding our reach, and building a team ready to create a brighter, more sustainable future for Aotearoa. Our focus is on making a difference through bold thinking, collaboration, and delivering value for the communities we serve.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Commercial Contract Manager to join our Commercial team.

This is an exciting opportunity to help lead the Authority's drive for value through procurement and critical contracts. This is a fixed-term role until the end of June 2025, with the potential to be extended or become a permanent role (depending on the Authority's annual budget and appropriation process in early 2025).

In this role, you'll bring your expertise in public sector contract management and procurement to help actively manage high-value, complex contracts while ensuring compliance with government rules and best practice. You'll work closely with stakeholders, negotiate strategically and contribute to the Authority's vision of a competitive, reliable and efficient electricity sector. You will drive continuous improvement and make a tangible impact on services that directly affect New Zealanders' lives.

Key responsibilities

You will work with and support the Head of Commercial by:

  • leading the business-as-usual work of the Commercial team - principally business as usual procurement and contract management of a portfolio of significant, high-value agreements
  • providing guidance, mentoring and support to individual contract managers and procurement specialists in the Commercial team, including thought leadership on procurement and contract management practice
  • assisting in the efficient running of the secretariat function for one of our Board sub-committees responsible for the governance oversight of major contracts
  • fostering collaboration across teams and building capability through mentoring and coaching.

Our ideal candidate

You will bring the following:

  • Experience managing complex and high-value contracts, including demonstrable financial literacy
  • Knowledge of public sector procurement rules and best practice
  • Proven ability to drive performance-monitoring, supplier reviews and contract improvements
  • Highly developed organisational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to convey complex information clearly and drive positive outcomes
  • Ideally, electricity sector experience

Why work for us?

We support a healthy work-life balance and offer a range of benefits to support our teams.

  • The starting salary range for this role is from $152,884
  • 3% net contribution to KiwiSaver
  • Flexible working options
  • Access to Habit Health and EAP services for you and your whānau
  • Regular social events to connect with your peers across the year
